About VM Motori
VM Motori is a world-class manufacturer of diesel engines located in Cento, Italy. For almost 70 years, VM Motori has pioneered the use of innovative technologies in automotive, industrial and marine applications.
The first VM Motori engine manufactured was an air-cooled, direct injection engine. A production plant was inaugurated in 1962 and its technical department was re-structured and a research and development department was created.
In January of 1990, the Company presented a completely new and revolutionary automotive engine – the Turbotronic®, which not only used after-cooling, but also made use of electronics to complete the combustion process. Turbotronic® was considered one of the cleanest diesel engines in the world and was produced at VM Motori for over a decade. Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, Rover and Alfa Romeo were some of the first to fit the VM Motori Turbotronic® engine in their vehicles.
In 2011, VM Motori’s V6 3.0L displacement engine was launched, adding a new class of vehicle applications such as luxury SUV’s and large top-of-class sedans, like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Lancia Thema. Further development of the RA428 engine resulted in a Euro 5 high performance engine named A428, mounted on the traditional Jeep SUV Cherokee and Wrangler, as well as the newly launched Lancia Voyager.
